The South Health Campus project began in 2007 with a construction budget of $1.3 billion. This new hospital was designed to include just over 250 beds, a 24-hour emergency department, an intensive care unit (ICU), as well as day surgery units.
Spalding was retained by Ellis Don Construction Services as construction managers for the opening scope of this hospital project. Our initial role was to provide design-assist services to Kasian Architects for the more than 3000 architectural openings within the hospital. As part of the consulting team, we coordinated with the end users, design team, and electrical engineers to ensure that the hospital doors and openings were designed and coordinated to meet code and function as intended.
Once the design was set, Spalding took on the hospital door supplier role and managed the procurement and on-site coordination of all the required doors, frames, hardware, and security components.
Spalding continues to support Alberta Health Services and the facility for their ongoing maintenance needs through our Aftermarket team.
We're proud of the work we do, and we can't wait to show you how we can add value to your next opening project.
